8/11/12 TEAM ALVAREZ JIU JITSU ARLINGTON TX 2012 IBJJF LAS VEGAS OPEN RESULTS - August 12, 2012
8/11/12, Team Alvarez Jiu Jitsu Arlington TX 2012 IBJJF Las Vegas Open results! Team Alvarez Jiu Jitsu out of Arlington TX, representing Bruno Bastos Association and Team Nova Uniao took 4 competitors to the IBJJF Las Vegas Open and came back with Amazing results. To start the day off around 9am, was Mr. Sal Martinez, fighting in the Adult Blue Belt Middle Heavy division won 2 matches and came up short in the semi finals to take home the Bronze Medal. Mr. Martinez won his first match on points and submitted his 2nd opponent by Bow N Arrow Choke. Later in the afternoon around 1:30pm, was Mr. Joe Gonzales and Mr. Jordan Shepler, both fighting in the Blue Belt Master Middle Weight division. Mr. Gonzales won his 1st match by points and came up short in the semi finals to take home the Bronze Medal and Mr. Shepler won all 3 of his matches to take home the Gold Medal in the same division. Shortly after around 3:30pm, was time for Mr. Alvarez, head instructor of Alvarez Jiu Jitsu Arlington TX fighting in the Black Belt Master Feather Weight division. Mr. Alvarez only had one opponent which was Mr. Richard Flood, an opponent that Mr. Alvarez lost to at the 2010 Rio Master Senior tournament in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Mr. Alvarez anxiously waited for this rematch as he looked to redeem himself from his 2010 loss as he moved up a weight class from his light feather weight class to get his rematch. Mr. Alvarez started the match off by scoring first and going up by 2 points by sweeping his opponent then was swept right back to make the score 2-2. Mr. Alvarez then swept his opponent again to go up 4-2 then later passed Mr. Flood’s guard to go up and end the match 7-2! It was a special moment for Mr. Alvarez as he avenged his 2010 loss to his opponent along with achieving his 4th Gold Medal of 2012. Later in the evening around 6:30pm, Mr. Shepler entered the Blue Belt Absolute division where he won his first 2 matches to make it to the finals where he came up short and took home the Silver Medal and giving him his second medal of the day. Previously Mr. Shepler has entered numerous IBJJF Blue Belt tournaments where he did not even place but his never give up attitude and perseverance allowed him to bring home 2 medals at the 2012 Las Vegas Open! Team Alvarez Jiu Jitsu Arlington TX affiliate team Nova Uniao, took home the 2nd place Team Trophy to end the day on an even sweeter note. Congrats to all Team Alvarez competitors and all Team Nova Uniao competitors that went out and left it all on the mat.
