Alvarez BJJ Helps LEAD BJJ Win the 2017 IBJJF Dallas Spring Open! - May 2, 2017

April 29 & 30, 2017 was the much anticipated 2017 IBJJF Dallas Open. Every year the IBJJF comes to Dallas it draws in great coaches and competitors from all over the country. With Team LEAD BJJ holding the crown for 6 consecutive years, they knew they had a tough challenge ahead in order to  maintain the throne for the 7th time.

After 2 full days of battling it out on the tatame, LEAD BJJ came out on top for the 7th consecutive year by taking 1st Place Overall in the GI division. LEAD BJJ also took home the 2nd Place Overall Team Trophy in the NO GI.

LEAD BJJ is a team of coaches along with their students under Head Coach Bruno Bastos. Danny Alvarez and his team, Alvarez BJJ in Arlington TX, made up 65 of the 98 LEAD BJJ competitors for the Dallas Open. The Alvarez Army took home 28 Gold Medals, 20 Silver Medals & 34 Bronze Medals to help Team LEAD BJJ bring home both trophies.

One of the main highlights of the weekend was Danielle Alvarez winning her first IBJJF tournament as a Black Belt less than two weeks after receiving it. Danielle beat a really well respected opponent in Fabiana Borges from Team Gracie Barra to win the 2017 IBJJF Dallas Spring Open. Much respect to both athletes. Coach Danny Alvarez also stepped up and led from the front besides having 65 students to run around and coach. Coach Alvarez got a tough victory over much respect Michel Pereira from Ghost Squad BJJ and Carlson Gracie Team in Miami, FL.

Overall is was a great and very successful weekend for Alvarez BJJ and Team LEAD BJJ. Stay tuned as both teams look to make more history together in the near future.
